Twelve students from Voyageurs Expeditionary High School, located in Bemidji, MN, competed against about 400 students from around Minnesota at the MAAP STARS annual Spring Events Conference on April 19-20. MAAP STARS is the Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs' youth organization. STARS stands for Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition, and Self-esteem.
In order to attend the conference held in Bloomington, students had to prepare and compete in at least four of sixteen possible categories. These range from individual events, such as public speaking, artistic performance, and career portfolio to team events, such as management decision making, and audio/video production. All of the twelve VEHS students who competed earned ribbons in multiple events.
