GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO THE VEHS WEB SITE.

Newsletter for Voyageurs Expeditionary High School

May 19, 2010

Dear VEHS Community Members:

The school year is winding down and with it comes the time to bid farewell to our graduates. Graduation will be held June 5th starting at 10:30 a.m. at Hagg Sauer Hall on the BSU campus. Everyone is welcome to attend and send off the graduates with our best wishes.

With the closing of the school year, Voyageurs starts another chapter of its history with the re-location to a new site next fall.  The board last week approved a lease to move the school to 3724 Bemidji Avenue North (the old Kobilka’s site).  We have been working the majority of the school year developing the architectural plans for the new space.  The new site is a one-story 8100 square foot building, which has slightly more then 3 acres of land.  We will have lots of green space and opportunities for new programming.  The plans call for a dedicated Shop and Art space, along with an indoor multipurpose ½ court for indoor physical education activities.  We will continue down the path of developing individualized learning plans for each student and continue to implement Project Based Learning as our main instructional strategy.

We are bringing back more travel opportunities next year.  Becky is planning to take a group of students to Florida in the end of February/beginning of March; Paul Johnson will be taking a group camping and canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and I plan to take a group of students on a trip somewhere warm in March also.

We will be having a couple of Open Houses at the new site later in the summer and invite you to stop by for a visit – look for more information on the website and information in the mail the end of July.

Our end of the year Project Fair is slated for Thursday, June 3rd from 2:00-3:00 p.m.  The last day of school is Friday, June 4th – we are planning an all-school trip to Itasca Park.

As always, please contact me with questions and/or concerns.  I look forward to visiting with you over the summer and next school year.

With warm regards,

Julie Johnson-Willborg
