Voyageurs Expeditionary High School
Located in Downtown Bemidji

A FREE H.S. alternative for those living in the Bemidji area


Small & Safe Environment

→ VEHS class sizes are between 15 and 19 students
→ Total enrollment at VEHS will be capped at 85 students (compared to 1,700 students at Bemidji High School)
→ The small atmosphere provides for a family feel and individual attention

Great Academics

→All levels of Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Art, and Music are offered
→Expeditionary Learning, which involves in-depth, hands-on study of interesting and fun subjects, is used in ALL academic areas
→VEHS is teaming with Bemidji State University to offer the College Courses in the High School Program, where students earn both H.S. and college credits
→A.P. opportunities are also offered at VEHS
→In the past two years 96% of 10th grade students have passed the state mandated Written Composition Test

Excellent Extra-Curriculars

→The following activities will be offered during the 2005-06 school year at VEHS: American Sign Language, Skiing, Knowledge Bowl, Destination Imagination, and the World Food Prize Youth Institute. Also, VEHS will be teaming with other districts to allow participation in other sports such as basketball.
→All students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities

Great Travel Opportunities

→In the 2004-05, 40 % of VEHS students traveled beyond the U.S borders—visiting Belize in Central America, Canada, and Kazakhstan in Central Asia.
→VEHS students spend a week at an environmental learning center
→Getting out of the classroom is an essential component of VEHS
→VEHS will offer several domestic and international trips in 2005-06
